The Metaverse: What Creates Digital Property Value?
SuperWorld is expanding the Metaverse. In SuperWorld, users can buy digital plots of land which correspond to actual locations on Earth. In this interview, Hrish Lotlikar, co-founder and CEO of SuperWorld, and Nick Halaris, president of Metros Capital, explore concepts surrounding digital estate. The number of new projects which fit under the metaverse umbrella seems to be growing by the day. However, as Halaris points out, there seems to be a lack of quality when these projects are compared to Web 2.0. Lotlikar, formerly in the digital production and gaming industry in Los Angeles, is working to merge the metaverse with the real world. Halaris and Lotlikar explore the details of SuperWorld as well as broader ideas related to digital ownership. What exactly do I own? How can I monetize my digital plots of land? Tune in for a fascinating discussion from two digital real estate pioneers. Recorded on January 11, 2022.

It Can Pay Today To Remember Yesterday's Excesses
What can the past tell us about present markets, speculation, and the inflation and collapse of bubbles? The NFT craze and the prices people are paying for nothing more than mere JPEGs surely raise cries of excess. “Right now, there are a lot of questionable areas,” notes Jamie Catherwood, an expert on financial history. “But, over the long term, in 20 years, it will be like the dot-com bubble. A lot of companies were wiped out. But there are some massive companies that are still thriving today. From the ashes a couple phoenixes will arise.” Invoking Mark Twain, Alfonso Peccatiello, author of the Macro Compass newsletter, asks Catherwood, founder of Investor Amnesia and an associate at O’Shaughnessy Asset Management, if history rhymes and whether we’re in the midst of multiple manias. Catherwood offers a guided tour of the 19th century, a time when financial bubbles proliferated and “bucket shops” – glorified gambling parlors – thrived on Wall Street. Tune in for Catherwood’s response to Peccatiello’s Twain-esque question about how the past can inform investor decisions about the present. Recorded on January 13, 2022.

Yields Surge to Pre-Pandemic Levels as Investors Anticipate Fed Action
Bond yields rose across the curve Tuesday and stocks sank, as investors began to price in the potential impact of as many as four Federal Reserve rate hikes in 2022. The U.S. 10-year yield jumped to 1.865%, the highest it’s been since January 2020, and the German 10-year bund moved to within one basis point of turning positive for the first time since 2019. U.S. equity indexes were off nearly 2%, while European stocks fell about 1%. The CBOE Volatility Index (known as the “fear gauge”) surged as much as 20% intraday. Meanwhile, Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude prices continued to rise on strengthening global demand and tightening tensions in the Middle East. Still, all eyes are on the Federal Reserve. Alfonso Peccatiello of The Macro Compass welcomes back Nordea Markets Global Rates Strategist Andreas Steno Larsen for a European perspective on what's driving markets today.
